My new book The Productive Garden: An essential guide towards self-sufficiency is published this week! Today (March 24th) is publication date in the US, and it is published in the UK and worldwide on March 26th. It is a very exciting time, knowing that the book is out there. The Productive Garden is available in your favourite bookshops, online stores and also through your local library.
I’ve had such lovely feedback from people who have received advance copies, in emails and also on social media. I’ve been blown away by how kind and supportive people are being. Launching a book out into the world is rather daunting, so I really appreciate the support I am receiving.
This is a busy and exciting time, working on promoting the book and replying to comments and queries. The team at Quarto in the UK and US have been fantastic – although writing a book is a rather solitary occupation, producing a finished book is the work of a whole team of people. Jason Ingram’s photography is wonderful – the book looks absolutely beautiful thanks to his incredible talent, and the work of the design team at the publishers.
Both Kitchen Garden Magazine and Amateur Gardening Magazine have promoted the book with extracts. Look out for more extracts in magazines and online over the upcoming months. There’s an extract also in my latest Substack post here.
Gardens Illustrated named The Productive Garden as one of their 5 recommended reads for March.
Other reviews include this one in Hort Week, based on a telephone interview with the editor, and this fantastic review in Budget Earth.

This week I am sending out all of the pre-orders from my website. My business is very tiny, it is only myself – I even hand write all of the addresses on the parcels! These are taken several times a week to the post office in Lampeter, the nearest town to me. It’s at the back of the Co-op supermarket, which is very handy because I can transfer the parcels from my car into a shopping trolley!
Fortunately the weather is being obliging as I work on the promotional side of the book launch here today. After a few days of glorious sun, it is grey, cold, rainy and windy, so I don’t mind much being indoors. March is very much a month of contrasts. The sun feels so warm, spring is in the air, and then it’s back to frosts and wintry weather.
I hope you enjoy reading The Productive Garden. If you do like the book, a review on Amazon or other book sites makes a huge difference to the success of a book – especially for authors like myself without a squillion followers on social media! You don’t have to have bought it from there to leave a review.
What now? Well you won’t be surprised to hear that I have some more book project ideas that I am working on…. Also, my new online webinars start in late April. The first dates are online here, and there’ll be more added in the coming months.

Libraries will also order in copies. It is usually very cheap, or even free, to request this.

Oh how exciting, my copy was pre-ordered last December, so cant wait to read it. Probably will devour it! Well done Stephanie,
Should be with you soon!
My pre-ordered copy arrived last week and is a joy. It’s relatable, very comprehensive and a beautiful book.
I love having all aspects of growing and using produce in one place, with clear guidance and illustrations. A masterpiece!
Thank you Deb, so glad you’re enjoying it
Great idea to get libraries to orde in your new book. I belong to libraries in two counties so can order it twice!
