Stephanie Hafferty – organic gardening expert and freelance writer

No dig gardening expert Stephanie Hafferty is a gardener, freelance garden and food writer, award winning author and homesteader. A member of The Garden Media Guild and The Guild of Food Writers, she has been writing for publications nationally and internationally for 14 years, based on decades of experience growing her own food: organically, affordably and sustainably.

In December 2022, Stephanie and her garden featured on BBC Gardeners’ World Winter Special Episode 4, with “a masterclass  on how to grow a wide range of vegetables through all of the winter months” Monty Don.

Monty Don said of her work: “Well, that’s inspiring. I think everybody, even if we’ve grown vegetables all our lives, can learn something from that.”

Stephanie writes freelance features for publications including: Kitchen Garden Magazine, Gardeners’ World Magazine, Bloom, Grow Your Own, Gardens Illustrated, The Organic Way, Permaculture Magazine, Growing Green International, Farm Girl USA, Permaculture Works magazine.

Stephanie also writes guest features for businesses and brands including Dalefoot Composts.

Stephanie’s first book No Dig Organic Home and Garden won Practical Gardening Book of the Year and has sold over 30,000 copies. Her seasonal plant based recipe book The Creative Kitchen has sold over 10,000 copies. She wrote Chapter 10 of ‘Grow Organic Salad Leaves and Greens‘ and has contributed to other books. She is currently working on her next gardening book, and new collection of recipes.

Her blog No Dig Home has been shortlisted for several awards including Blog of the Year at the Garden Media Guild Awards and the Soil Association Organic Blog of the Year.

Stephanie’s high quality photographs illustrate her books, articles (including for National Geographic) and work by other authors.

An experienced edible garden designer, Stephanie has created no dig kitchen gardens for private estates, restaurants, community gardens and show gardens, including project managing and designing the RHS No Dig Allotment Demonstration Garden at RHS Hampton Court Garden Festival 2021.
